Recorded in Los Angeles on August 12, 1954, Jazz Immortal marks the only collaboration between Clifford Brown and Zoot Sims. It contains versions of two compositions by the trumpeter that would become standards, “Joy Spring” and “Daahoud” (both of which Brownie had already recorded a week before on August 6, 1954 with the MaxRoach-Clifford Brown Quintet). Jazz Immortal also matched Clifford with other West Coast musicians, such as pianist Russ Freeman, bassist Carson Smith, and drummerShelly Manne, who were better known for their association with another trumpet great, Chet Baker.
