This two CD set, accurately documents the manner in which Don Shirley created his own genre: Jazz tinged but not really jazz, soulful, but not really soul, often reaching out into areas that were distinctively classical. Here there are moments when Shirley recalls such giants as Chopin, Ray Charles, Rachmaninoff and Ellington, creating a world where music is simply music and no barriers exist. Many of the songs featured here served as an inspiration to the Oscar winning film “Green Book”.
