Bing Crosby was undoubtedly the most important name in popvocal history. Bing was the performer who really dragged thegenre of popular singing out of the megaphone age and onto therecord players of the world at large. He loved making records,way back in 1931 he commenced his solo chart career with anarray of hits that included four of the biggest selling records of theyear, and from then on just continued delivering sounds that keptrecord pressing plants fully employed. He could sing anything,from downright novelty material through to highgrade jazz. Andhe made it all sound classy.
