This CD contains Eric Dolphy’s complete original LP Outward Bound(Prestige/New Jazz 8236). It marks his first album as a leader, and featureshim in a quintet format with Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Jaki Byard onpiano, George Tucker on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. It was also thefirst of various collaborations between Dolphy and Hubbard. The only twoalternate takes from the session, as well as an extended reading of thebluesy “R&R” recorded that same year (and on which he shares centerstage with Roy Eldridge and Charles Mingus) have been added as a bonus.
