This release contains the complete original LP The Art Tatum Trio (Verve MGV-8118), pairing the superb pianist with bassist Red Callender and the greatswing drummer Jo Jones (this is the only existing studio collaborationbetween Tatum and Jones). It was among the last sessions recorded by Tatum,who would die soon after on November 5, 1956 at the age of 47. As a bonusto the ten tracks on the original album, we have included different versionsby Tatum of seven of the LP’s songs, which have been organized here in thesame song order as on the Tatum-Callender-Jones date.
