Auleja is a small village in Latvia's eastern region of Latgale where a richheritage of folklore has been preserved. It is precisely the traditional vocalmusic of this area, characterised by smooth, graceful melodies and a specificstyle of multipart singing, that has earned particular recognition. Thelongevity of Auleja's traditional music is linked to the work of the AulejasSievas (women from Auleja) ethnographic ensemble, which is one of the oldestsuch ensembles in Latvia. This album is a tribute to Auleja, to its threegenerations of singers and their families.
