No one better epitomized the poetry and despair of Giselle and Albrecht, the protagonists of the masterpiece of French Romantic ballet, "Giselle," than Carla Fracci and Erik Bruhn. Others may have danced these roles more brilliantly, but no one danced them more elegantly and soulfully. Like many televised performances that have made their way onto DVD, this one from 1968 has its clumsy camera angles and cute cinematic indulgences, especially as Giselle is going mad. But the production is an
American Ballet Theater classic, and Ms. Fracci and Mr. Bruhn are divine.
