Guitarist Grant Green (1935-1979) recordedprolifically both as a leader and as a sideman(primarily for the Blue Note label). He performedin the hard bop, soul jazz, bebop, and Latin-tingedidioms throughout his career. According to criticsMichael Erlewine and Ron Wynn, “A severelyunderrated player during his lifetime, Green is oneof the great unsung heroes of jazz guitar”.Green Street marked the guitar legend’s secondLP as a leader following Grant’s First Stand (tapedon January 28, 1961). Unlike most of his manytrio albums, it didn’t make use of the organ orthe piano, featuring instead a guitar-bass-drumsformat. Backed by such subtle players as BenTucker and Dave Bailey, Green could showcase histalents with no inhibition, making this one of themost remarkable works of his whole career.
